Location
Description
We are located in the little village of Homestead, one of the original seven villages of the Amana Colonies the number one tourist destination in the state of Iowa. Homestead offers restaurants, shops, the Amana church museum, and close proximity to the Nature Trail for hiking and biking. The Old Creamery Theater and the famous Amana family style restaurants are within a five minute drive.
Ours is a rich history; legend has it that Die Heimat (The Home Place) was the original stagecoach stop for the colonies. As early as 1858 it was used as an inn for travelers. From 1906 to 1932 Die Heimat operated as a communal kitchen. Then in 1962 Die Heimat was renovated to accommodate, once again, the travelers who have found a warm welcome for more than fifty years!
Die Heimat is very much in keeping with the Amana traditions, such as "Amana-blue" walls. The rooms are currently decorated in the simple Amana style; many feature Amana walnut and cherry furniture. However, changes are coming Die Heimat is under new ownership as of February 1, 2011. We are open all year 'round.
