Walking the Grounds
There are numerous trails throughout the 65 acres here at A Bend In The Road Cabins. Feel free to wander the paths starting behind the fire ring and also across the street from the entrance gate. We also abut the Wayne National Forest with thousands of acres to explore.
The fire ring is located up the path as you cross the little bridge off the deck. A small supply of firewood is provided. Please make sure the fire is manageable and under supervision.
Horse Stalls and Bridle Paths
We have 3 horse stalls in which you may board you own horse. There are turnout fields available also where your horses may graze. We are located to several bridal paths that are a short drive away.
Hocking State Park: Forty miles of Ohio's most challenging trails, as well as its most picturesque southeastern scenery, await riders at 9,266-acre Hocking State Forest. Trails lead in and out of box canyons, along cliff tops and close by waterfalls. One trail offers a panoramic vista of Big Pine Valley, including both Conkle's Hollow and Crane's Hollow. Some areas of the forest, including the popular "Airplane Rock" landmark, are accessible only by foot or on horseback. Trails provide varying degrees of difficulty. Forest staffers are currently working to halt trail erosion problems in some areas
Zaleski State Park: Fifty miles of bridle trails at Zaleski are divided into six, color-coded loops of varying lengths and degrees of difficulty, although the more difficult sections are gradually being eliminated. Rental horses are available in the area.
Smoke Rise Ranch: Located just 7 miles from Burr Oak State Park, Smoke Rise is 2000 acres of privately owned land, bordered by a wildlife management area and the Wayne National Forest, totaling over 30,000 continuous acres. The property has a host of features, from rock bluffs to lush green bottom land. There are ponds to water your horse, or just fish the day away. Birds, beaver, deer, turkey, raccoon, grouse, and squirrels just to name a few, all provide the opportunity to view some of the abundant wildlife here.
Stone Church Horse Trail: This horse trail provides 21 miles of scenic riding. Contact Wayne National Forest at 740.753.0101 for more information.
