The river view

Chattooga River

The Chattooga River begins in mountainous North Carolina as small rivulets, nourished by springs and abundant rainfall, high on the slopes of the Appalachian Mountains the start of a 50-mile journey that ends at Lake Tugaloo between South Carolina and Georgia, dropping almost
mile in elevation.

The river is one of the few remaining free-flowing streams in the Southeast. The setting is primitive; dense forests and undeveloped shorelines characterize the primitive nature of the area.

Whiteside Cove Cabins are located on 26 rolling acres, which are flanked by a national forest. There are numerous hiking trails and plentiful fishing. (license req. & and can purchased in town) Our own clear, clean stream is a great place to wade or just relax with a picnic lunch along the banks on a grassy spot.

Entering the grounds affords a great view of historic Whiteside Mountain rising 2000 feet above the cabins.

Whiteside Mountain Facts:
Elevation: 4930 ft, . Features some of the highest cliffs in the eastern U.S. (2100 ft) and a rock feature known as the "Devil's Courthouse." Whiteside Mountain is approx. 390 - 460 million years old. Said to be the oldest mountain in the world.
