Two thumbs, way up ~ my family has been spending the same week at Oak Park Resort for about 20 years. It is a beautiful resort with well maintained cabins and clean, enjoyable facilities and amenities. The lake and waterfront are wonderful for families with any age children. I can't say enough nice things about the resort or Jim and Theresa Swanson (owners), they are simply put - fabulous proprietors. We look forward to our week at the lake every summer. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Even after we moved to Seattle from Minneapolis.

This resort is wonderful. Our families have been going to Oak Park for 17 years. We love it. When we ask our children what their favorite vacation spot they say "the Lake "(Clitheral - oak park) and that is up against Estes Park, CO and Disneyworld. The owners are great and its a place to make family memories.

Great location! Great lake! Terrific owners! Cabins are very clean. We have stayed here frequently. The recreation center has pinball machines, pool table, tennis table, games, books, honor system candy and ice. The lake is good fishing and good swimming. Lots of docks and great fishing off the docks in the evening. Each cabin has an outdoor picnic table and there are Weber grills available for use. If you don\'t have something in your cabin, check at the office. They have a lot of items you can borrow - crock pots, etc. The only drawback for some people may be the full size beds, but the rest of the resort more than makes up for it!

Very good place to stay and fish. Like the other reviews, the cabins are older and rustic. It is an upgrade from tent camping. But for the price you can not beat it. I will be going back again and again. We met the nicest people who were staying at the resort. They go a few times a year, and they were gracious with their knowledge of the lake. There is a gas station and store less than 2 miles from the resort. I can\'t say enough about the place. People that were visiting there, were already making reservations for their next trip. We would have too, but we have family spread out, and have to visit them too. Nightcrawlers and minnows is all you need during July. We caught Northern Pike, Perch, Walleye and some Bullhead.

Great place to stay! Good fishing! Ive been going there since i was a kid. The cabins are a little outdated and rustic, but they are cheap! If you dont mind that, the you can get a one bedroom cabin for 350 + tax for a week! Or a two bedroom for like 450 + tax for a week! Old cabins, but very inexpense and a family vacation you will never forget! So go check it out you'll love it! (they also have 3 bedrooms not sure about the price, just call they are very nice people!)

This is a very very nice place, it has it all. Immaculate rooms, unique and elegant style, meals and massages. The biggest perk is the peacefullness and great fishing. We like to do B&B's because you just pay the price of a room and get use of a whole house and this was a fantastic deal. They don't take kids unless you rent all three rooms so it's great for adults wanting that real peace and quiet.

Hafdals Lake Darling Cabin

801 South Darthing Ln.
Alexandria, MN

This cabin was absolutely horrible. A friend and I roomed there for the college term. There was black mold all over the cabin, and none of the walls were finished. Wires hang from walls because of this. There is only minimal insulation. The house itself has very bad moisture problems and buildup. The shower is moldy. My roomate as well as myself built up a cough once we had stayed there for over a month, and the cough continued until I moved out. The only reason I stayed there longer was to get my damage deposit back, as well as I had been schemed into paying "The last month of contract's rent ahead of time upon signing." The Hafdals are extremely rude and very rarely addressed problems when brought to their attention. In all sincerity I give this cabin a grade of F. I guarantee an inspector would have deemed this shack unlivable. Do not even waste your time, and if you do decide to tour this you will see exactly what I am speaking of. Very nasty place. And I pride myself on reporting the truth.
