Lost Canyon Resort - Gunnison, CO

Thumbs down! This place is way past rustic. We left and went to town and rented a motel and lost a weeks rent cause this place is that bad. It is dirty with very poor ammenities. All beds sag in the middle and your feet sleep higher than your head. You are better off outside in a tent with the bears as they could walk right in to the cabins any way. 2012-08-08 18:27:12

Thumbs down! The occasion was the wedding of my son and daughter-in-law on 9-10-11. First, the accommodations and support staff were wonderful. We spent 3 days with family at the lodge. It felt like a big house to us. The setting was informal; we could get up and go down for breakfast as if we were at home. The rooms were comfortable. I have only a small concern about their advertising on the website. Their website lists amenities to include TV. This is not totally accurate. While they do have TV sets, none of them work. On the downside I cannot recommend this location as long as the current manager, Meira, is in charge. Once the contract was signed, things began to deteriorate. She continued to try and change the agreement, but when there was push back she would stop. We should have known this was going to be difficult. Her people skills are a 2-3 on a 10 scale. Rude is too kind of a word to describe her interaction style. Things really deteriorated on the day of the wedding when she found some people in our party brought in two six packs of beer the previous evening. They had not been informed of the rule of not allowing alcohol to be brought in. Only the facility could provide alcohol. She threatened to fine us $1000 for the violation. When confronted she backed off and said it was only a warning, but indicated that if it happened again she would call the police and have us taken to jail. During the wedding reception she approached my wife an accused us or our guests of stealing from their walk-in cooler. When she discovered the reality of the situation she failed to apologize. When the reception began to wind down (10:30 pm) she made an announcement that all guest must clear the premises in 30 minutes and all overnight guest must go to their rooms so the staff could clean up. If we didnt comply she would charge us an additional $250 dollars per hour. We were in disbelief and embarrassed. As our guests were leaving, she literally chased the cars asking if people were okay to drive because of alcohol consumption. I dont believe this was out of concern for our guest, but fear that if someone was hurt she would be held responsible. The irony in her statement of asking our guest to leave so they could clean up was that once the guests had departed, she and her staff turned out the lights, left the lodge and left the band with a flash light to pack up their gear. Clean up didnt begin until the next morning. I have been unable to find the contact information for the owners of the lodge, but I will persist until I can locate them and report her behavior. Others need to be aware of her and how she interacts with her clients. My advice to others considering this location is, BEWARE. Michael Groff Sugar Grove, Illinois 2011-09-14 19:57:50

Thumbs down! All I can say is that I'm glad to have come across this website! I was sure that my husband and I would be the only witnesses to the owner's neaderthal and child-like behavior. Yes, I was the woman who the ower came charging at because my husband was collecting sticks. Quite conveniently, the irratable woman at the front desk failed to mention what was apparently the most important policy of the campground, "no gathering sticks". I highly doubt this was the first time someone neglected to see the tiny sign that was "posted" behind two bookcases stating this policy. In any case I believe a simple, "Excuse me, but our policy is that we do not allow gathering." would have been sufficient. But alas, the male owner's abhorrent treatment of women won and I was forced to endure physical and verbal intimidation because of some sticks. You camp here at your own risk, as I too found another reviewer who said that owner yelled at his CHILD. 2010-06-15 09:50:55

Thumbs down! Between the surly woman at check in and the lack of everything their website promises I can say without a doubt this is the WORST campground in Colorado. There are no private tent sites and the "running water" is some disgusting, bacteria infested run-off. I suppose my husband and I should have been tipped off by the lack of guests staying there but we decided to give it a go anyway. BIG mistake! Out of nowhere the owner came barreling past us over to some poor twenty something year old woman and her boyfriend (husband?) and began verbally accosting her! I have never in my life witnessed anything so horrible! After about 30 seconds of hovering over her we noticed he began moving in closer. When she tried to put up her hands in surrender he began yelling and cursing even louder! She looked terrified and rightfully so! I had to restrain my husband from going over to him as he was acting so irrationally I feard for our own safety. Since our stay I have read a few other reviews about the owner name calling and being rude to people's children, so all I can say is believe those reviewers. I witnessed his bad behavior first hand. 2010-06-14 15:20:58
